This book is without doubt a classic of air literature of the Second World War written by one of the most acclaimed Luftwaffe pilots and leaders, General Adolf Galland (19 March 1912 – 9 February 1996) General Galland was a German Luftwaffe pilot and flying ace who served throughout the Second World War in Europe. He flew 705 combat missions, and fought on the Western Front and in the defence of the Reich. On four occasions, he survived being shot down, and he was credited with 104 aerial victories, all of them against the Western allies. He knew and writes many interesting things about such famous German aces as Marseille, Udet and Moders, to say nothing of the English ace, Douglas Bader, who after being shot down over the Pas De Calais attempted to escape in one of Galland's Messerschmitts.
In February 1934, Galland joined the Reichswheir and he was accepted in the Luftwaffe. In 1937. During the Spanish Civil War he volunteered for the Condor Legion and flew ground attack missions in support of the Nationalists under Francisco Franco in a Heinkel He 51. At the outset of Hitlers invasion of Poland he flew a stuka to the end of the third Reich when he commanded jets. Galland was present. This book will include you with an intimate backdrop to the war from the German side. Moving thru the ranks to become Commander in chief of the German fighter force.
