This book, J-26  Top Guns of the Luftwaffe, was published by Orion Books, a division of crown publishers, Inc. of New York, USA.  Written by Donald L. Caldwell and foreword by Adolf Galland.  Copyright 1991.  I purchased this book new at a Aces dinner and book signing in Tustin, California in 1992.  It has been stored since purchased and has never been read.  This book is devoted to telling the  wartime story of JG-26 and its exploits.  The RAF pilots who faces them soon came to refer the pilots of this group as  as the "Abbeville Kids."   Known for their distinctive yellow-nosed planes and being based in the French countryside in the Abbeville region.   Fighting up to the very end of the war this J-26 group had a record of 2,700 victories, a ratio of better than three to on against its opponents. This book was signed by the author in February 1992 at above mentioned book signing.

Donald L. Caldwell has been researching World War II for more than thirty years.  He has written widely on the German Luftwaffe. His first book, JG 26: Top Guns of the Luftwaffe (Crown, 1991) sold 70,000 copies across all editions, and the two volumes of his JG 26 War Diary (Grub Street, 1996, 1998) are considered the best English-language history of a German fighter unit. The Luftwaffe over Germany: Defense of the Reich (Greenhill, 2007) (co-authored with Richard Muller) was given the Best Air Power History Book Award for 2008 by the Air Force Historical Foundation. A retired research chemist, Caldwell lives near Houston, Texas.
